Jan Dwyer Collectibles started 27 years ago with Jan sculpting
her whimsical clay figurines, each by hand, then firing them in her
kiln. As she traveled the midwest selling her work at art and craft
shows, the demand for her creations grew.
The business moved from the kitchen table to a small room in her
husband Dean's hardware store. Eventually, when Dean closed the
hardware store, Jan was able to take over the old hardware
building, where she presently has the business.
Two years ago Jan tried her hand at carving using power tools.
Her first piece was a large pumpkin cut from Catalpa wood, and
carved on the bark side, to use the natural character of the bark.
She decided it was time for a new venture! Dean started making
a few wood pieces, such as log lamps, candlesticks, shelves and
mirrors to add to the line. After each piece is carved, Jan does a
little embellishing of the natural color of the bark with a dry brushing
technique Her family has made it possible to expand this line with
all their help and support.
